Overview
Sonmarg is a popular tourist destination located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The name “Sonmarg” translates to “Meadow of Gold” in English. It is situated at an altitude of around 2,800 meters (9,200 feet) above sea level in the Himalayas. The town lies in the Ganderbal district, about 80 kilometers northeast of the capital city, Srinagar.
Sonmarg is known for its stunning natural beauty, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and meadows. The Sindh River that meanders through the region adds to the picturesque landscape.
